Method of Circumcision
The ShangRing method, a modern technique designed for minimal discomfort and optimal healing.
- A small ring is placed at the circumcision line during the procedure.
- You will go home with the ring in place.
- You must return to the clinic 7–14 days later for the ring to be removed.
Benefits of the ShangRing Method
- Even and symmetrical circumcision line
- Minimal bleeding
- No stitches, reducing scarring
- No need for bandages
- Shower as normal from the next day
- Return to work the following day
Aftercare Pack
You will receive a comprehensive aftercare pack, which includes:
- Two creams to aid healing and reduce discomfort
- Painkillers for post-procedure relief
- Direct contact with the doctor via WhatsApp for any concerns or questions, avoiding unnecessary clinic visits
Frenulectomy
The frenulum is the small band of tissue on the underside of the penis that connects the foreskin to the shaft. In some cases, it may be tight or prone to tearing, leading to discomfort, especially during erections.
Symptoms of a tight frenulum include:
- A pulling sensation at the underside of the penis
- The penis tilting downward during erections
A frenulectomy can be performed alongside circumcision to relieve this issue. If you would like this procedure, please contact us at 0208 954 0405 to add it to your booking.
Hygiene
To minimize infection risks, please follow these hygiene guidelines:
- Shave your pubic area three days before surgery.
- Remove all body piercings and nail polish before your appointment. This helps maintain a sterile environment and allows doctors to monitor circulation.
- Take a shower or bath before coming in to ensure the skin is clean, reducing infection risks.
Eating Before Surgery
Since the procedure is performed under local anesthetic, you do not need to fast.
We recommend having your normal meals, light snacks, sweets, and water beforehand. Being well-fed helps your body handle the procedure better.
The local anesthetic ensures a pain-free experience throughout the circumcision.
Before Your Appointment
- If you have a long-standing medical condition (e.g., diabetes or heart disease), check with your GP if it’s safe for you to have local anesthetic and surgery.
- Take your regular medications unless advised otherwise.
- Allow extra time to travel to your appointment to avoid unnecessary stress.
What to Bring
- A list of any medications you are currently taking.
- Comfortable clothing to wear after the procedure.
- Headphones and your phone or a book – you are welcome to listen to music, read, or distract yourself during the procedure.
- Avoid bringing valuables to the clinic.
On Arrival
- Check in at reception and fill out a short consent form.
- Ask any questions you may have before the procedure.
- You may bring one person with you into the treatment room for support.
After the Procedure
- Managing discomfort: Some soreness and mild swelling are normal. Take painkillers as needed.
- Keeping the area clean: You can shower from the next day, but avoid soaking in baths or swimming for at least two weeks. Pat the area dry gently.
- Limiting strenuous activity: Avoid heavy lifting, running, cycling, or intense exercise for at least two weeks to prevent strain on the healing site.
- Sleeping comfortably: If night-time erections cause discomfort, try sleeping on your side or stomach.
- Erections with the ShangRing: Erections may feel uncomfortable while the ring is in place. This is normal and will improve once the ring is removed.
- Avoid sexual activity for six weeks: To allow full healing, no sexual intercourse or any activity that could disturb the healing area for six weeks.
Once the ring is removed, healing continues, and the area will gradually return to normal within a few weeks. Full healing may take up to six weeks.
If you have any concerns, you can contact the doctor directly via WhatsApp, avoiding unnecessary clinic visits.
