Baby and Child Circumcision in London

Baby and Child Circumcision in London

Cute Baby Circumcision London
Having performed over 10,000 circumcisions, the IMC provides an excellent circumcision service for babies, children and older boys. We focus on ensuring mother and baby have the best possible experience.

We recommend the Plastibell ring method of circumcision. It is the most clinically trusted and least painful method available for babies and young children. The Plastibell ring method involves very little bleeding since there is minimal cutting needed during the operation. The perfect circular shape of the ring results in a clean surgical line rather than depending on steady hands. The procedure is a quick, straight-forward method of foreskin removal, making it one of the most popular circumcision techniques.

Older boys may not be able to have circumcision with the Plastibell device and instead, surgical methods or the Shang Ring method is used. This depends on the size of the glans (head) of the penis. The IMC is the only clinic in London to offer the Shang Ring, a simpler procedure than surgery giving a similar experience to the Plastibell.

You do not need a referral from your GP to have your son circumcised – this is solely a parental decision. You can simply call us to talk to our friendly team and book a convenient appointment slot. Whether it’s for personal, medical, cultural, Islamic, Jewish or any other reason, all are welcome to use our services.

At the IMC Circumcision Clinic London, we focus on safety, minimising discomfort and ensuring a good cosmetic outcome for your baby or child. It is with these priorities that we have been able to gain our word-of-mouth reputation in London, a reputation that has kept us busy day after day, since long before the internet. The IMC uses certified-sterile, disposal (one use only) surgical tools and routinely includes local anaesthetic administration for pain-relief prior to the circumcision. This results in minimal pain for your son. We often see babies babbling or suckling on their dummies during the procedure and children enjoying the television screen during the procedure.

Deciding when to book an appointment: Circumcision can be performed on all healthy boys from the age 7 days old. From our experience, the Plastibell method works best the younger the child is and we do not recommend waiting for children to get older. In fact, infancy is the ideal time for a child to undergo circumcision. At this age, babies feel less pain, move less during the procedure and will have no recollection of the operation.  We have seen the Plastibell method work best when a child is circumcised between the ages of 1-3 months old in terms of child and parent comfort during the operation and the recovery period.

Deciding on whether to book a home or clinic appointment: Our convenient and professional home circumcision service is available for babies and young children aged 6 or under and offers the same safety and specialist qualities across most of North London, West London, South London and East London. We are able to transport all the certified-sterile equipment we use at the clinic to your home. On the other hand, appointments at the clinic are usually more flexible.

Booking the appointment can be done by calling us, emailing us or through our online booking form where you can view most of our available dates. Do call us if you do not find the date you are looking for, as we often have extra times available due to cancellations or appointment changes. We recommend booking your appointment two weeks in advance of your preferred date or longer with school holidays but you can often find an appointment within the week during less busy periods.

Keep an eye for any text messages or emails we send out after the appointment is booked.

The whole Plastibell procedure takes about 10 minutes to perform and causes minimal pain in comparison to other circumcision techniques. It requires no stitching, no dressings and results in minimal operative bleeding. The child is left with a small scar which will fade further over time.

Shang Ring procedures take slightly more time, and produces similar results.

Our prices are all-inclusive, so we will not ask you to pay extra for follow-up appointments, 24-hour support, local anaesthetic, take-home ointment, initial pain medication, after-care instructions and flexible appointment options.

Commonly asked questions

Circumcision is a treatment for phimosis, paraphimosis, recurrent balanitis and various other problems. We are happy to discuss and treat these, although you may need to be seen as an outpatient in the local private hospital. Some parents come to us after a previous circumcision for a corrective procedure and we can usually see you at our normal London clinic. Whatever the reason, we are happy to provide a consultation and discuss a tailored plan going forward.
You get a pack that includes all of our contact details, a booklet on how to care for your son and tips that will help your son heal as quickly and healthily as possible including Dr. Bakir’s top home remedies that have proven to be very successful over 27 years. If you have any other questions, you will have access to our experienced staff, 24-hour emergency line and you can always come in for a follow-up. Everything mentioned is included in the cost.
This depends on age, with recovery times increasing the older the child gets. Typically for infants the ring comes off, along with the excess foreskin, within a week. For young boys this takes around a week or slightly longer. For older boys, it usually takes around two weeks for the ring to come off. This is also around how long it takes to recover from Shang Ring or surgical circumcision.
Circumcision in a premature infant should occur after the baby is healthy enough to be discharged from hospital and has reached term. Please inform us if your baby is premature.
Circumcision using the Plastibell method is a minor procedure and we only use equipment that is sealed, sterile and suitable for one-time use, whether at home or in the clinic. We always monitor on-going research to achieve the best outcomes for children. Our specialists travel internationally in order to remain up to date with the latest innovation in circumcision so that our practice can be as safe as possible.
Boys may need to take time off school until healing is complete. Mature children who can avoid strenuous activity in school may attend even before the ring falls off. From our experience, schools are usually understanding, however we can provide a note explaining the need for rest if the school requests further evidence.
There are a few reasons not to circumcise. If your newborn has jaundice, we tend to wait a few weeks for it to settle. Children with a family history of bleeding disorders such as haemophilia will need a consultation to discuss risk. It is best not to carry out the circumcision while your infant or child is unwell. Babies with certain genital abnormalities may not be suitable for circumcision. For example, babies with hypospadias should not undergo circumcision as the foreskin may later be used to correct this condition.
